Yemen, also known historically as South Arabia, is a country located in Western Asia at the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It is officially called the Republic of Yemen. It borders Saudi Arabia to its north and Oman to the northeast. It shares maritime borders with Djibouti and Eritrea. It occupies 555,000 km2 (214,000 miles) and is the second-largest Arab sovereign state in the Peninsula. It stretches along the coast for approximately 2,000 km (1,200 mi). Yemen’s capital and largest city is Sana’a. The country’s population is 31,154,867 as of 2022.
Yemen is a member of several international organizations, including the United Nations, Arab League, Non-Aligned Movement, and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Yemen is a member of the group of least-developed countries. This refers to its many undefined. The United Nations reported in 2019 that Yemen had approximately 24 million people who needed humanitarian assistance, which is 85% of its total population. The country ranks second in the Global Hunger Index’s Fragile State Index as of 2020. It is also the worst on Human Development Index.

Sanaa, also known as Sanaa or Sana, is the capital of the Sanaa Governorate. Although the city is not part of the Governorate, it forms an administrative district called “Amanat Al-Asemah.” According to the Yemeni constitution, Sana’a is considered the country’s capital.
However, Aden, the capital of South Yemen after the Houthi invasion, became the seat of the government. In March 2015, President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi declared Aden the temporary capital.
Marib, the capital of Marib Governorate in Yemen, is Marib. It was once the capital of the ancient kingdom Saba, believed by some to be the ancient Sheba. It lies approximately 120 km (75 miles) east of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. It had 16,794 inhabitants in 2005. It was home to nearly one million refugees fleeing the Yemeni Civil War in 2021.
Aden has been a city and the temporary capital of Yemen since 2015. It’s located near the eastern approach of the Red Sea, approximately 170 km (110 miles) east of Bab-el-Mandeb. The city is home to about 800,000. The natural harbour of Aden has located in the crater of a dormant volcano. It now forms a peninsula joined to the mainland via a low Isthmus.
Front Bay was the first harbour used by the ancient Kingdom, Awsan, between the 7th and 5th centuries BC. On the opposite side of the peninsula is the modern harbour. The Gulf of Aden is named after Aden.
Taiz is located in southwest Yemen in the Yemeni Highlands near Mocha. A port city on the Red Sea at an elevation of approximately 1,400m (4,600 feet) above sea level. It is home to more than 600,000. In 2005, it was the third-largest city in Yemen, after Sana’a, the capital, and Aden, the southern port city.
Taiz, a battleground and war zone, is ravaged by the ongoing civil war in Yemen. The “cultural capital” of Yemen, Taiz, was once known. However, the war has given rise to the new title, “city of the snipers.”
Al-Hudaydah is also known as Hodeda. It’s the fourth-largest Yemeni city and the principal port on its Red Sea coast.
It was home to 402,560 people and is the center of the Al Hudaydah Governorate.
