Saint Lucia
Remove The Limitations And Barriers
Saint Lucia, an island nation in the West Indies at the border with the Atlantic Ocean, is located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It was initially called Iyonola by the Arawaks and then Hewanorra by the native Caribs. These are two distinct Amerindian tribes. North/northeast of Saint Vincent is a part of the Windward Islands. It’s located northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It had a total area of 617km2 (238 sq miles). According to the 2010 census, it had 165,595 inhabitants. Castries is the capital of St. Lucia, while Soufriere is the second-largest. It was founded as the French colonial capital.
The French were the first Europeans who settled on the island. In 1660, they signed a treaty of friendship with the native Island Caribs. From 1663 to 1667, England took the island under its wing. In the years that followed, it was at war with France 14 times, and its rule changed often. The British took over the island in 1814. Saint Lucia, constantly under British and French control at different times, was nicknamed the “Helen of the West” after the Greek mythological character Helen of Troy.
