Remove The Limitations And Barriers
The Gambia, a country in West Africa, is known as the Gambia. It is the smallest country in mainland Africa. Senegal is its only neighbor, except on the Atlantic Ocean’s western coast. The Gambia lies on the Gambia River’s lower reaches, the nation’s namesake. It flows through the central Gambia before empties into the Atlantic Ocean. It covers 10,689 km2 and has a population estimated at 1,857,181, according to the April 2013 census. Banjul, the capital of the Gambia and the largest urban area in the country, is Banjul. Serekunda is the largest city, and Brikama is the second.
The first Europeans to enter the Gambian region were the Portuguese in 1455. However, they never established any trade. The Gambia Colony & Protectorate was established in 1765 to make it a part of the British Empire. The Gambia gained independence in 1965 under Dawda Jawara. He ruled until Yahya Jammeh took power in a peaceful coup in 1994. After defeating Jammeh during the December 2016 elections, Adama Barrow was elected The Gambia’s third president. Jammeh accepted the results at first but then refused to accept them. This triggered a constitutional crisis that resulted in military intervention by the Economic Community of West African States. Jammeh was exiled.
