Addis Ababa, also known by its original name Finfinne is Ethiopia’s capital and largest city. It also serves as the regional capital of Oromia. In the 2007 census, the city’s population was estimated to be 2,739,551. Addis Ababa is Ethiopia’s highly developed and important cultural, artistic, and financial center.

Many historians depicted Addis Ababa as a fortified place called “Barara” in the 15th century. Ahmed Gran immediately plundered Barara in the 16th century.

Adama, previously Nazreth, was a city in the central Oromia Region. Adama is part of the East Shewa Zone and forms a Special Zone in Oromia. It is situated at an elevation (1712m) of 8.54degN and 39.27degE, 99km southeast of Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.

The city lies between an escarpment’s base to the west and the Great Rift Valley to the east.

Dire Dawa is a city in eastern Ethiopia near the Oromia and Somali Region border and one of two chartered cities in Ethiopia. Dire Dawa was part of Oromia until 1993 when the federal government split it into a separately administered chartered city. It is divided administratively into two woredas, the city proper and the non-urban woreda of Gurgura.

Dire Dawa lies in the eastern part of the nation, on the Dechatu River, at the foot of a ring of cliffs. The city’s western outskirts lie on the Gorro River, a tributary of the Dechatu River. It is located at the latitude and longitude of 9°36′N 41°52′ECoordinates: 9°36′N 41°52′E. The city is an industrial center, home to several markets and the Dire Dawa Airport.

Harar is a walled city in eastern Ethiopia. It is known in Arabic as the City of Saints.

Harar is the capital city of the Harari Region. The city also serves as the administrative center of the East Hararghe Zone in the Oromia Region. The ancient city is located on a hilltop in the eastern part of the country. It is about five hundred kilometers from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at an elevation of 1,885 meters (6,184 ft).

Dessie is located in north-central Ethiopia. It is located in South Wollo Zone within the Amhara Region. The elevation ranges between 2,470 and 2,550m above sea level. Dessie lies 400 km north of Addis Ababa. It is home to more than 200 000 people, spread across 30 wards.
