Formerly known as Dacca (the capital) and the largest city in Bangladesh, Dhaka is also the largest city within the Bengal region. It is the tenth-largest and fourth-most populous city in the world. As of 2011, 8.9 million people lived within its boundaries and more than 21 million in the Greater Dhaka Area.

Dhaka, Bangladesh’s economic, political and cultural capital, is also the largest city in South Asia. It is also the largest in Eastern South Asia and among the Bay of Bengal countries. Rajshahi, historically Rampur Boalia, is a metropolis and a major urban, educational, and commercial center of Bangladesh. It also serves as the administrative seat for the eponymous district and division. The city is located on the Padma River’s north bank, close to the Bangladesh-India border. It has more than 763,952 inhabitants.

The satellite towns of Nowata, Katakhali, and Rajshahi surround the city. Together they form an urban agglomeration with approximately 1 million people. Rajshahi is frequently regarded as the cleanest and most green city in Bangladesh.

Khulna, Bangladesh’s third-largest city, is after Chittagong and Dhaka. It is located in the administrative territory of Khulna District’s Khulna Division.

Khulna’s economy is third in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, contributing $53 billion to the nominal gross state product and $95 million in purchasing power parity terms (PPP) as of 2020. The 2011 census showed that the city had 663,342 inhabitants. In 2014, the Khulna metropolitan region had an estimated population of 1.022 million.

Sylhet, a city in northeastern Bangladesh, is called a metropolitan. It is the administrative capital of the Sylhet Division. Sylhet is located on the northern bank of the Surma River at the eastern tip of Bengal. It has a subtropical climate with a lush highland landscape.

Sylhet is a significant spiritual and cultural center in Bangladesh. It is home to over half a billion people and is the third largest city in Bangladesh, after Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, and Chittagong. After Chittagong and Dhaka, it is also one of Bangladesh’s most important economic cities. It produces the most tea and gas in the country.
