Sofia is the largest city and the capital of Bulgaria. It is located west of the Iskar River and boasts many mineral springs, such as the Sofia Central Mineral Baths. It enjoys a humid continental climate. It is located in the middle of Balkans and lies between the Adriatic Sea and the Black Sea. The Aegean Sea is closest to it.

Sofia is also known as Serdica in Antiquity or Sredets during the Middle Ages. Sofia has been a place of human habitation for at least 7000 BC.

Plovdiv, located on the banks of the Maritsa River in the historical region Thrace, is the second largest city in Bulgaria. It is home to 346,893 people as of 2018 and 675,000. It is a significant economic, transport, cultural and educational hub. Plovdiv, the cultural capital of Bulgaria, was named the European Capital of Culture for 2019. Plovdiv was called Philippopolis for Philip II of Macedon throughout its recorded history.

Varna is third in Bulgaria’s largest city. It is also the largest city and resort along the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. The town is strategically located in the Gulf of Varna and has been a major cultural, economic, and social center for nearly three millennia. Originally known as Odessos, Varna was a Thracian seaside settlement that became a major Black Sea seaport.

Burgas is sometimes referred to as Bourgas. It is the second-largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast in Northern Thrace. It is Burgas’ capital and a major industrial, transport, cultural, and tourist center.

Ruse is Bulgaria’s fifth-largest city. Ruse is located in the northeastern region of Bulgaria, on the right bank Danube. It is situated opposite the Romanian capital Bucharest. It serves an essential part of international trade in Bulgaria and is the largest port on the river.
