Brazzaville, the capital and the largest city of the Republic of the Congo is the capital. It is located on the northern side of the Congo River opposite Kinshasa (the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo). It is the administrative and financial center of the country.

The capital’s population is more than three-quarters of the nation’s total. About 40% of the population is employed in non-agricultural occupations. Brazzaville was also the capital of Free France during World War II between 1940 and 1942.

Pointe-Noire, the capital of the Republic of the Congo and an independent department since 2004, is the second-largest city. It was previously the capital of the Kouilou region (now a separate département). It lies on a headland that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and Pointe-Noire Bay. Pointe-Noire, the country’s main commercial center, has a population of 715,334 (2007). This number will rise to over 1,000,000 if the entire metropolitan area is considered.

Loubomo, also known as Dolisie between 1975 and 1991, was a city located in the Republic of the Congo’s western province of Niari. It is the third-largest city in the country and a major commercial hub. It is located at the eastern end of the coast rainforest and has an estimated population of 83,798 as of the 2007 census.

Owando, a town located in the central Republic of the Congo on the banks of the Kouyou River, is called “Owando.” It was once known as Fort Rousset. It is also the capital of the Cuvette Department. It has a market and an airport. It was given the “commune” status on March 16, 2017.

Impfondo, a town located on the Oubangui River in the northeastern Congo, has a population of approximately 41,000. It houses an airport, and a river barge connects it from Brazzaville to Bangui. It is also the administrative center for Impfondo District and the Likouala Region.

Rumours abound about a corrupt police force and a group of soldiers in the Congo. This is likely due to its remoteness and proximity to the Democratic Republic of Congo across the river. Sometimes, soldiers from DR Congo have crossed the border and harassed people, putting them on edge. Refugee camps can also be found on the entire west side of the Congo River at Likouala. However, as the conflict in DR Congo ends, they should move back across the river.
