Dominica
Remove The Limitations And Barriers
Dominica, known as the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island nation in the Caribbean. Roseau, the capital of Dominica, is found on the island’s western side. It is part of the Windward Islands archipelago’s Lesser Antilles chain. Two constituent territories of the Eurozone and the European Union are Dominica’s nearest neighbors, Guadeloupe in the northwest and Martinique in the south-southeast. Dominica has a land area measuring 750 km2 (229 sq mi). The highest point in Dominica is Morne Diablotins at 1,447m (4,747ft). At the 2011 census, there were 71,293 people.
The Arawak, who arrived from South America in the fifth century, settled on the island. By the 15th century, the Arawak were replaced by the Kalinago. The island was claimed to have been inhabited by Columbus on Sunday, 3 November 1493. Later, it was colonized by Europeans, mainly the French, between the 1690s and 1763. The French brought enslaved Africans from West Africa to Dominica to plant coffee. After the Seven Year’s War, Great Britain gained possession of the island in 1763. It gradually made English its official language. In 1978, the island became a republic.
