What Got You Where You Are Today?

That’s quite a long story! But, as a black female who grew up on the Southwest side of Chicago, I’ve been working and blogging since I was a 15 year old fashion intern at the Nordstrom mall downtown. After many years of hard work, support from my loved ones, and grind, I eventually got to the point where I am today and I’m elated to have made such progress! However, I recognize that the journey is nowhere near complete. I was a very active child when I was younger, I could barely contain my energy. My mom would often describe me as a ball of fire with endless passion.

When recalling my childhood experiences between 8-13 years, there were many unforgettable memories I acquired as I transitioned between childhood and becoming a woman.

As young as 8, I realized the true value of education and pushed through hurdles to reach my goals. I was very hardworking when it came to academics. In fact I was a school topper even at a tender age as I wanted to do my best to become a doctor and help those in need and hopefully make a difference in the world. At the age of 12 years I scored 6As in my primary school national examination, and secured a place in one of the best schools in my state.

It didn’t stop there; I was active in sports that I represented my state in running.

The most memorable moment in my life was when I scored 12As in my national secondary school examination. I received an award from the prime minister at that time who was Dato Najib Razak for becoming a national top scorer in the year 2009.

It was a big confidence booster for me and it motivated me to work harder. After that, I worked even harder through the days and nights throughout my school years to be the national top scorer and eventually I secured a government scholarship to pursue my dream job as a medical doctor.

Charity drives, educating underprivileged on health and weight training in gym are my hobbies. I used my charity organization to disperse out basic necessities to the ones in need. Helping others to me is not just a hobby. To me it is a way of life.

Moreover, I also engage myself in health talks during my free time, especially for children in rural areas. I believe that health education should start at a young age as it is crucial for children to learn as much as they can as they’re the future leaders of the world.

I know how being hungry feels and I know how much suffering people in my country go through. All these hardships taught me that education has the power to make great changes and that helping the needy is a blessing as I wish to help and inspire people so that they can improve their lives.

All my life, I have dedicated myself to studying the wonders of the human body and how to heal it from diseases and harm. In the process of learning, I fell deeply in love with the beauty of Mother Earth.

As I grew older, I grew fonder of her and had a deeper realization on how precious and important nature is to the survival of all forms of life. It was then that I made the unusual choice of chasing my dream of becoming a doctor and my new goal of becoming Miss Earth so that I could build a platform to help tackle issues like deforestation, all forms of pollution and efforts to preserve the dazzling beauty of nature that we have been blessed with.

Fun fact – I’m fraternal twins, survived my first battle of life where I was incubated after I was born since I was premature.
