Benin, also known as Dahomey, is a country in West Africa. It borders Togo to the west, Nigeria to the east, Burkina Faso to its northeast, and Togo to its northwest. Most of its population lives on the coast of the Bight of Benin, in the southernmost region of the Gulf of Guinea. This is the Atlantic Ocean’s northernmost tropical region. Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin, is Cotonou, the economic prosperity and capital. Benin covered 114763 km (44.310 sq mi) and had a population of 11.49 million in 2018.
Benin is a country in the tropical region of Africa. Agriculture is the mainstay of its economy. It is also a significant exporter and importer both of palm oil, cotton, and other commodities. Subsistence farming provides substantial income and jobs. Although French is Benin’s official language, there are many different languages, such as Yoruba or Fon. Roman Catholicism is the most widely followed religion in Benin. Voodoo and Protestantism closely follow it. It is also a member of the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It also houses the South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone and La Francophonie.

Benin City, the capital and most populous city in Edo State, is located in southern Nigeria. With a population totaling 1,782,000, it is the fourth largest city in Nigeria, after Kano, Lagos, and Ibadan. Parakou is one of the 77 Benin communes. Its mayor has been Souradjou Karimov since 2015.
