North Korea
Remove The Limitations And Barriers
North Korea, also known by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (or simply North Korea), is an East Asian country. It forms the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. It borders Russia and China at the Yalu-Tumen rivers. South Korea is to its south at the Korean Demilitarized Area. The Yellow Sea forms its western border, while the Sea of Japan defines its eastern boundary. Like its southern counterpart, North Korea claims to be the legitimate government for the entire peninsula and the adjacent islands. Pyongyang, the capital of the country, is also its largest city.
The Empire of Japan annexed Korea in 1910. After the Japanese surrender in World War II, Korea was split into two areas along the 38th Parallel. The Soviet Union occupied the north, and the United States occupied the south. Negotiations for reunification were unsuccessful, and two separate governments were created in 1948: the capitalist Republic of Korea and the socialist DPRK. Korea’s invasion of North Korea in 1950 triggered the Korean War, which lasted until 1953. Although the Korean Armistice Agreement established a demilitarized area and ended the conflict, no formal peace treaty was ever made.

Top Cities to Visit
Pyongyang, the capital and most populous city of North Korea, is also known as the Capital of the Revolution. Pyongyang can be found on the Taedong River, 109 km (68 miles) upstream of its mouth at the Yellow Sea. It has a population estimate of 3,255,288, according to the 2008 census. Pyongyang has a direct administration and is equal to the North Korean provinces.
Pyongyang is one of the oldest cities in Korea. It was the capital city of Gojoseon, an ancient Korean kingdom, and it also served as the secondary capital for Goryeo. It was heavily damaged in the First Sino-Japanese War. However, it was resurrected under Japanese control and made an industrial hub.
Chongjin, the capital of North Korea’s North Hamgyong Province, is the country’s third-largest city. Sometimes, it is called the City of Iron.
Chongjin was an isolated fishing village before the Japanese annexation. Its date of establishment is not known. Its name, in Chinese characters, means “clear river crossing.” Chongjin was the location of a Japanese supply base established by Manchuria’s front lines during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).
Hamhung, North Korea’s second-largest city, is South Hamgyong Province’s capital. Hamhung, with a population estimated at 768.551, is North Korea’s second-largest urban area. Hamhung, located in the south Hamgyong Province, is the most populous metropolitan area in the province.
Hamhung is a vibrant local economy compared to other areas in North Korea. It is also known for its outstanding architectural construction, centrally planned and built by North Korea’s government.
Sinuiju, a city in North Korea, faces Dandong (China) across the international border at the Yalu River. It is also the capital of North Pyongan Province. A portion of the city is part of the Sinuiju Special Administrative Region. This was created in 2002 in an attempt to introduce a market economy.
Despite being behind Pyongyang’s development, the city has recently experienced a small construction boom and increased tourism from China.
Wonsan, a port and naval base in Kangwon Province of North Korea, is located on the east side of the Korean Peninsula. It is also the provincial capital. In 1880, the Japanese occupying forces opened the port.
It was under South Hamgyong’s jurisdiction before the Korean War of 1950-1953. It was also the Blockade site at Wonsan during World War II. In 2013, the population was 329,207. Kim Ki-Nam, a diplomat who was also the Vice-Chairman of the Workers’ Party of South Korea, is one of the notable residents of Wonsan.
