Copenhagen is Denmark’s capital city and the most populous. The population was 799,033 as of January 2021.

Copenhagen is located on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand. It is the centre of Copenhagen’s wider urban area (population 1,336,982) and Copenhagen’s metropolitan area (population 2,057.142). An additional portion of the city can be found on Amager. Malmo, Sweden, is separated by the Strait Of Oresund. The Oresund Bridge links the two towns via rail and road.

Aalborg is Denmark’s fourth largest city, with an urban population of 142,937 (2021).

The twin city Nørresundby is 600 meters across the Limfjord. When including their population of 20,964, then the Municipality of Aalborg is the third most populous in the country after Copenhagen and Aarhus. By road, Aalborg is 64 kilometers southwest of Frederikshavn and 118 kilometers north of Aarhus. The distance to Copenhagen is 412 kilometers if traveling by road and not using ferries.

Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark and the seat of Aarhus municipality. It is located on the eastern shore of Jutland in the Kattegat sea and approximately 187 kilometers northwest of Copenhagen.

The largest city in Jutland, Aarhus, anchors the Central Denmark Region and the statistical region Landsdel Østjylland. The LØ is Denmark’s second most populous statistical region, with an estimated population of 903,974. Aarhus Municipality defines the greater Aarhus area as itself and eight adjacent municipalities totaling 952,824 inhabitants, roughly analogous to the municipal and commercial collaboration Business Region Aarhus. The city proper, with an estimated 282,910 inhabitants, ranks as the 2nd-largest city in Denmark.

Odense is the third-largest city in Denmark. It has a population of 180,760 and is the main city of the island of Funen. By road, Odense is located 45 kilometers north of Svendborg, 144 kilometers south of Aarhus, and 167 kilometers southwest of Copenhagen.

Odense has close associations with Hans Christian Andersen, who is remembered above all for his fairy tales. He was born in the city in 1805 and spent his childhood there. The city is the seat of Odense Municipality and was the seat of Odense County until 1970 and Funen County from 1970 until 1 January 2007, when Funen County became part of the Region of Southern Denmark.

Esbjerg is a coastal town on the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. It is also the seat of Esbjerg Municipality. With an urban population of 72,044, it is the fifth-largest city in Denmark and the largest in West Jutland. By road, it is 71 kilometers (44 mi) west of Kolding and 164 kilometers (102 mi) southwest of Aarhus.
