Brussels-Capital Region, or Brussels, is a Belgian region with 19 municipalities. This consists of the City of Brussels, which is Belgium’s capital. The central part of Belgium is home to the Brussels-Capital Region. It is part of both the Flemish Community & the French Community of Belgium, but it is distinct from the Flemish Region (within the Flemish enclave) and the Walloon Region. Brussels is the most populous and prosperous region of Belgium in terms of GDP per capita.

It is 162km2 (63 sq mi) in area and home to over a 1.2million people. It is home to over 2.5 million people and is the largest metropolitan area in Belgium, five times larger than Brussels. It also forms part of a large conurbation stretching towards Ghent and Antwerp, Leuven, and Walloon Brabant, home to more than 5 million people.

Antwerp, Belgium, is the capital of the Flemish Region Province. It is home to 520,504 people and is the largest city center in Belgium. The metropolitan area is home to around 1,200,000 people.

Antwerp lies on the River Scheldt and is connected to the North Sea via the Westerschelde estuary. It is located approximately 40 km (25 miles) north of Brussels and 15 km (9 mi) south of the Dutch border. The Port of Antwerp ranks second in Europe and among the top 20 worldwide. It is well-known for its trade and diamond industry. Globalization and World Cities Research Network rated Antwerp as an International Gamma+ City in 2020.

Bruges, the largest city and the capital city of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium in the northwest, is also the seventh-largest country in terms of population.

The city’s total area is more than 13,840 hectares (138.4km2; 53.44 square miles), which includes 1,075 hectares at Zeebrugge (from Brugge aan zee meaning ‘Bruges by the Sea.’). The city’s historic center is a World Heritage Site (UNESCO). It is approximately 430 hectares in size and oval in shape. The city’s total population is 117 073 (1 January 2008), with about 20,000 living in the city center. The metropolitan area covers 616km2 (238 sq mi) and has a total population of 616 people.

Ghent is a municipality and a city in the Flemish Region, Belgium. It is the capital of East Flanders and the largest city in the province. It is also a port city and university town. Antwerp and Brussels are the only two more prominent cities in the country.

It was initially founded as a settlement near the confluences of the Rivers Scheldt & Leie. In the Late Middle Ages, it became one of Europe’s largest and most prosperous cities, with approximately 50,000 inhabitants in 1300.

Liege is the capital of Belgium’s province of Liege and is the central city and municipality in Wallonia.

The city is located in the valley of the Meuse in the east of Belgium. It is close to borders with the Netherlands (Maastricht, approximately 33 km (20.5 miles) to the north) and Germany (Aachen, about 53 km (32.9 MI) north-east). The river Ourthe meets the Meuse in Liege. It is located in the sillon Industrielle, which was once the industrial backbone for Wallonia. It is still the main economic and cultural center of the region.
