Malaysia is located in Southeast Asia. The federal constitutional monarchy comprises 13 states and three federal territories. The South China Sea separates them into two regions, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo’s East Malaysia. Peninsular Malaysia shares a maritime and land border with Thailand and maritime borders with Singapore and Vietnam. East Malaysia shares land, maritime, and border borders with Brunei and Indonesia and has a maritime border with the Philippines and Vietnam. Malaysia, one of 17 megadiverse nations in the tropics, is home to many endemic species.
