Tokyo, historically known in the west as Tokio and officially the Tokyo Metropolis, is the capital, the largest city, and the most populous metropolitan area in the Greater Tokyo Area, the Kantō region, and Japan, as well as the most populous metropolitan area in the world and most populous prefecture of Japan.

Located at the head of Tokyo Bay, the prefecture forms part of the Kantō region on the central Pacific coast of Japan’s main island of Honshu. Tokyo is the political and economic center of the country, as well as the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the national government. As of 2021, the prefecture has an estimated population of 14.04 million. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world, with an estimated 37.468 million residents in 2018.

Osaka is a designated Japanese city in the Kansai Region of Honshu. Osaka Prefecture’s capital is home to the third largest Japanese city, Osaka Prefecture. With a population of 2.7million in the 2020 census, Osaka is also the most significant part of the Keihanshin Metro Area. This is Japan’s second-largest urban area and the 10th largest in the world, with over 19 million people.

Hiroshima, Japan’s capital, is Hiroshima Prefecture’s capital. The city’s population was 1,199,391 as of June 1, 2019. As of 2010, the gross domestic product (GDP) Greater Hiroshima Urban Employment Area was US$61.3 million. Since April 2011, Kazumi Matsui has been the mayor of the city.

Sapporo, Japan, is a city. It is the capital city of Japan, north of Tokyo, and the largest city in Hokkaido (the northernmost main island).
It is also the capital of Hokkaido Prefecture and Ishikari Subprefecture. Sapporo is located southwest of Hokkaido within the alluvial fan surrounding the Toyohira River. This river is a tributary stream to the Ishikari. It is Hokkaido’s cultural, economic, and political center.
