Dar-es-Salaam, commonly known as Dar, is Tanzania’s largest city and financial hub. It is also the capital of the Dar es Salaam Region. With a population of over six million people, Dar is the largest city in East Africa and the seventh-largest in Africa. Located on the Swahili coast, Dar es Salaam is an important economic center and one of the world’s fastest-growing cities.

The town was founded by Majid bin Said, the first Sultan of Zanzibar, in 1865 or 1866. It was the principal administrative and commercial center of German East Africa, Tanganyika, and Tanzania. The decision was made in 1974 to move the capital to Dodoma and was officially completed in 1996.

Dodoma is Tanzania’s capital. It also serves as the capital of the Dodoma Region. Dodoma has a population above 410,956. German colonists founded it in 1907 during the construction of the Tanzanian central railroad. It was laid out in the colonial style of the day, with a European quarter separated from a native village.

It was made the official capital of Tanzania in 1996. However, the original design was not realized in many cases. Government offices and embassies are still opposed to moving to Dodoma. Dar es Salaam is Tanzania’s de facto and commercial capital.

Mwanza Region is one of Tanzania’s 31st administrative areas. Mwanza is the regional capital. The Mwanza region hosts Ukerewe Island (the largest lake island in Africa) and Saanane Island National Park (Tanzania’s smallest national park).

Geita is to the west, Shinyanga in the south, and Simiyu east. Lake Victoria also borders the region’s northern frontier. John Mongella is the regional commissioner for Mwanza Region.

Mbeya, a city in southwest Tanzania, Africa, is called. According to the 2012 census, Mbeya had 385,279 people. Mbeya is the capital of the rural Mbeya region. (Population with Mbeya totals approximately 2 million).

Mbeya is 1,700m (5.500 feet) high and sprawls through narrow valleys surrounded by high mountain peaks. Swahili is the primary language. English is taught in schools.

Tanga is the name of the most northern port city of Tanzania, west of the Indian Ocean and the capital of the Tanga Region. It had a population of 273,332 in 2012. The name Tanga means “sail.”
