Lausanne, Switzerland’s capital and largest city, is located in the canton of Vaud. It can be found on the shores Lake Geneva (French: le Leman, or Lac Leman). It faces Evian-les-Bains in France, which is surrounded by the Jura Mountains. Lausanne lies 62 km (38.5 miles) northeast of Geneva.

Lausanne is home to approximately 140,000 people. It is the fourth-largest city in Switzerland. The entire area has around 420,000 residents. Lausanne-Geneva’s metropolitan area, also known as Arc lemanique, was home to over 1.3 million people in 2017. It is the fastest-growing region in Switzerland.
