Tegucigalpa (formerly Tegucigalpa Municipality of the Central District) is Honduras’s capital and largest city. It also has a twin sister, Comayaguela.
The Spaniards claimed Tegucigalpa on September 29, 1578. President Marco Aurelio Soto made the country’s capital on October 30, 1880. He moved the capital from Comayagua to Tegucigalpa. In 1982, the Constitution of Honduras established the sister cities of Tegucigalpa, and Comayaguela, as a Central District that would serve as the permanent capital. Articles 8 and 295.

La Ceiba is the capital of the Honduran Atlantida department and a port on the northern coast of Honduras, Central America. It lies at the southern border of the Caribbean and forms part of the Gulf of Honduras’ southeastern boundary. It is home to approximately 199,080 people, making it the country’s fourth-most populous and third-most important city.

La Ceiba was founded officially on 23 August 1877. Named after the giant Ceiba tree that grew close to the old dock, La Ceiba was formally established on 23 August 1877. Officially, the city is the “Ecotourism Capital of Honduras” and the “Entertainment Capital of Honduras.” The town hosts its annual carnival on the third or fourth Saturday in May to celebrate Isidore, the Laborer (Spanish San Isidro Labrador). Comayagua, Honduras’s old capital and municipality, is located approximately 80 km (50 miles) north of Tegucigalpa along the highway to San Pedro Sula at 594 meters (1 949 feet) above sea level.

Comayagua’s rapid growth led to the municipality establishing a territorial restructuring plan. The high rate of population growth (4.8%) at the time and migratory movements within the country led to the quadrupling of the town’s population between 1945 and 1975. The city’s estimated population was 111 700 in 2020. It is the capital city of the Comayagua region of Honduras. The area is also known for its rich Spanish Colonial architecture. It is home to the oldest clock in America, located in the cathedral’s central square.

Puerto Cortés, originally known as Puerto de Caballos, is a port city and municipality on the north Caribbean coast of Honduras, right on the Laguna de Alvarado, north of San Pedro Sula and east of Omoa, with a natural bay. The present city was founded in the early colonial period. It multiplied in the twentieth century, thanks to the railroad and banana production. Regarding traffic volume, the seaport is the largest in Central America and the 36th in the world.
