Guinea
Remove The Limitations And Barriers
Guinea is located on West Africa’s coast. Guinea borders the Atlantic Ocean in the west, Guinea-Bissau in the northwest, Senegal in the north, Mali and Cote d’Ivoire in the southeast, and Sierra Leone and Liberia in the south. The country was once known as French Guinea. It is now called Guinea-Conakry. This is to distinguish it from the other territories of the same region, such as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. Guinea is home to 12.4 million people and covers 245,857 km (94,926 sq mi).
In 1958, Guinea gained independence from France. There have been many military coups of d’etat in the country’s history. After decades of dictatorial rule, Guinea had its first democratic elections in 2010. Although Guinea held multi-party elections, it faced ethnic conflicts, widespread corruption, and abuses by the police and military. Human rights in Guinea are still a controversial topic. The United States government stated in 2011 that torture by security forces and the abuse of children and women were continuing human rights problems. A military faction overthrew President Alpha Conde in 2021 and suspended the constitution.
