The city is located in the heart of Germany’s larger Rhine-Main metropolitan area, with a population of 5.5million. It is Germany’s second-largest metro region after the Rhine-Ruhr. Frankfurt’s central business area is located approximately 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Gadheim, Lower Franconia, the EU’s geographic center. The Franks are the city’s name, just like France and Franconia. Frankfurt is the largest city within the Rhine Franconian dialect region.

Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg and the largest city in the German state. It lies on the Neckar River in a fertile valley called the “Stuttgart Cauldron”. It is an hour away from the Swabian Jura and the Black Forest. It is the sixth-largest city in Germany, with 635,911 inhabitants. It is home to 2.8 million people within its administrative region and 5.3 million in its metropolitan area. This makes it Germany’s fourth-largest metropolitan area.

Both the metropolitan area and city are consistently ranked among Europe’s top 20 metropolitan areas in terms of GDP. Mercer ranked Stuttgart 21st globally on its 2015 list of cities with the highest quality of living. 2thinknow, an innovation agency, ranked Stuttgart 24th globally, while the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranked Stuttgart as a global city of Beta status in their 2014 survey. Stuttgart hosted the official tournaments for the FIFA World Cups in 1974 and 2006.
