Tbilisi, still called Tiflis in some languages, is Georgia’s capital and largest city. It lies on the banks of the Kura River with an estimated 1.5 million inhabitants. Vakhtang I Iberia founded Tbilisi, which has been the capital and headquarters of many Georgian kingdoms. Between 1801-1897, Tiflis was part of the Russian Empire. It was also the seat of Caucasus Viceroyalty. They governed both the northern and the southern Caucasus.

Batumi, Georgia’s second-largest municipality and capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, is situated on the coast of Georgia’s southwest. Batumi’s economy focuses mainly on tourism and gambling. But the city is also a major seaport, with shipbuilding and food processing industries. Batumi has undergone a significant transformation in the last decade, with modern high-rise constructions and the restoration of classic 19th-century edifices that line its historic Old Town.

Kutaisi, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, is the third-most populous Georgian city. It was traditionally second in importance after Tbilisi, the capital. It is 221 km (137 miles) west of Tbilisi on the Rioni River. It is the capital of Imereti’s western region.

Gori, a city located in eastern Georgia, is the regional capital for Shida Kartli. It is at the confluence of the Mtkvari (or the Liakhvi). Gori is Georgia’s fifth most populous city. Named after the Georgian word Gora (meaning “heap”, hill, or mountain), it is Georgia’s fifth-most populous city.

This settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period. The Gori Fortress was built in at least the 7th century. It gained town status in the 12th century. Gori was a central military fortress in the Middle Ages. Its strategic location on the main highway linking eastern and western Georgia made it a strategic point. Armies from regional powers throughout history have invaded Gori. Russian troops occupied the city during the 2008 Russo-Georgian War.

Rustavi is a city in the southeast of Georgia, in the region of Kvemo Kartli and 20 km (12 mi) southeast of the capital Tbilisi. It has a population of 130,100, making it the fourth most populous city in Georgia. The Rustavi Metallurgical Plant dominates its economy.
