Dominican Republic
Remove The Limitations And Barriers
The Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles archipelago. It is part of the Caribbean region. It is located in the eastern five-eighths, which it shares with Haiti. Hispaniola is one of two Caribbean islands. Two sovereign countries also share Saint Martin. With approximately 10.8 million inhabitants (2020 est.), the Dominican Republic is second in the Antilles by land area, after Cuba, at 48,671 sq km (18,792 sq mi). About 3.3 million people live in Santo Domingo (the capital).
Before Europeans arrived, the native Taino people inhabited Hispaniola. They divided it into five chiefdoms. They were building an advanced farming and hunting society and were on the verge of becoming an organized civilization. They also inhabited Cuba and Puerto Rico. Christopher Columbus, a Genoese mariner, explored the island and claimed it for Castile. He landed there in 1492 on his first voyage. The first permanent European settlement in the Americas was established at Santo Domingo, becoming the seat of Spanish colonial rule. Spain recognized the French dominion over the third western island in 1697. This was the beginning of Haiti’s independence in 1804.
