Willemstad, the capital of Curacao (an island in the south Caribbean Sea that is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), is the capital of Curacao. It was the capital city of the Netherlands Antilles until its dissolution in 2010.

The city’s historic center is made up of four quarters. These are the Otrobanda and Punda quarters. They are separated by Sint Anna Bay which leads to the Schottegat natural harbor. Also, the Scharloo and Pietermaai Smal quarters are located across from each other at the Waaigat harbor. Willemstad houses the Curacao Synagogue, the oldest remaining synagogue in America. The city’s center has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unique architecture and harbor entrance.

Otrobanda was founded in 1707 as a suburb of Willemstad on the other side of Sint Anna Bay. Otrobanda was often referred to as the Spanish side, and Punda and Pietermaai were called the Holland side.

 In 1752, In 1816, the population of Otrobanda was 2,527 people. In 1856, the Sint-Elisabeth Hospital, the first hospital in the country, was opened in Otrobanda. In 2019, it was replaced by Curaçao Medical Center, which was built next to the old hospital. The Basilica of St. Anne was built as the first Roman Catholic church on the island.

Tera Corá is a town in the Bandabou District of Curaçao. It is located near the middle of the island. Grote Berg and Siberië are part of Tera Corá. The name is Papiamentu for “red earth,” which is caused by the presence of bauxite.

Boka Samí is a fishing village on the island of Curaçao in the Netherlands Antilles. It has approximately fifty inhabitants and is situated five kilometers West of Willemstad. Near the town are the Sint Michielsbay, Blue Bay, and the Sint Michielsmountain.
It is the home of the Jong Colombia football team and houses the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden in a tourist resort.

Sint Michiel is a fishing village lying at the south end of Bullenbaai bay on the west coast of Curaçao. It is located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northwest of the island’s main center, Willemstad. The St. Michiel Bay is locally known as “Boca Sami” and is situated between the much smaller Blue Bay and Vaersenbaai. Vaersen Bay used to be the Curaçao Police recreational facility. It is now the popular Beach Club Kokomo Beach Curacao.

2 WIC forts once defended the bay. The ruins of the main fort are still visible. These forts were protected from French pirates and the British Navy though they were occupied by both the 18th and early 19th Centuries.
