Croatia, officially known as the Republic of Croatia, is located along the Adriatic Sea at the intersection of Central and Southeast Europe. Croatia borders Slovenia to its northwest, Hungary to its northeast, Serbia to the east, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, respectively, to the southeast. It also shares a maritime border with Italy to the southwest and west. Croatia covers 56,594 km (21,851 sq miles) and has a population of 4.07 million.
