Phnom Penh, the capital and largest city in Cambodia, is its most populous. Since the French protectorate in Cambodia, it has been the country’s capital. It has also become the nation’s cultural, economic, and industrial center.

Phnom Penh was established in 1434 as the capital of the Khmer nation. It was later abandoned many times and reestablished by King Norodom in 1865. The city was once a significant processing center with machine manufacturing, textiles, and rice milling. However, its most important assets were cultural. The Royal University of Phnom Penh was one of the institutions of higher education. It has engineering, fine art, technology, and agricultural sciences schools. This school is located in Chamkar Daung, which is a suburb. The Royal University of Agronomic Sciences and the Agricultural School of Prek Leap were also found in Phnom Penh.

Battambang, the capital of Battambang Province, is also the third-largest city in Cambodia.

Battambang, the largest rice-producing province in the country, was established by the Khmer Empire in the 11th Century. It was the capital and commercial hub of the Siamese Province of Inner Cambodia (1795-1907), although it was always populated mainly by Khmer. There were also Lao, Thai, Thai, and Chinese. Battambang is still the central hub in Cambodia’s northwest connecting it with Phnom Penh, Thailand, and the rest of the country.

Siem Reap, the second-largest capital city in Cambodia, is also the capital and the largest city of Siem Reap Province. It’s located in northwestern Cambodia.

In the Old French Quarter, Siem Reap features French colonial-style and Chinese-style architecture. There are many museums in the city. You will also find traditional Apsara dance performances, souvenir and handicraft shops, silk farms, rice paddies, fishing villages, and a bird sanctuary close to Tonle Sap. The city has a vibrant drinking and dining scene. At the 9th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible For Culture and Arts, Oct 22, 2020, Cambodia’s Siem Reap proclaimed the ASEAN City of Culture. It is home to the famous Angkor Temples.

Sihanoukville (also known as Kampong Som) is a city on the coast of Cambodia. It is the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province and lies at the tip of a peninsula that overlooks the Gulf of Thailand. It is surrounded by beaches stretching almost along the entire coast and marshlands crossing the Ream National Park to the east.

Sihanoukville has several islands that are barely inhabited. These islands have attracted a significant portion of Asia’s backpackers, students, and individual travelers in recent years. One navigable river runs through the city, the Ou Trojak Jet, a mangrove-lined stream from Otres Pagoda towards the Otres Sea.

Serei Saophoan, the capital and largest city in the Banteay Meanchey Province, is also the fourth-most populous city in Cambodia. This city is located between Cambodia’s National Highway 5 & 6. The government uses the administrative name “Serei Sophon” for it. Sisophon, the more common name, is derived from Si Sophon’s Thai pronunciation. Truck drivers, train drivers, and workers who transport goods are also known as “Svay.” It is not known where the name “Svay” came from. Its population was 61,482 at the 1998 census. This number declined to 61.631 at the 2008 census. Poipet is now more prominent.

A Khmer temple ruin known as Banteay Chmar is located approximately forty minutes from Sisophon.
