Remove The Limitations And Barriers
Azerbaijan is part of the South Caucasus Region. The Caspian Sea borders it, with Russia north, Georgia to its northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to its south. Baku is the capital and largest city.
In 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic declared independence from Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic. It was the first secular democratic Muslim-majority country. The Soviet Union incorporated the country as the Azerbaijan SSR in 1922.
The modern Republic of Azerbaijan was declared independent on 30 August 1991. The self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh was formed in September 1991 by the Nagorno–Karabakh region’s ethnic Armenian majority. With the 1994 end of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Nagorno-Karabakh was an independent country. The seven districts and portions of Nagorno Karabakh were brought under Azerbaijani sovereignty after the 2020 Nagorno Karabakh war. The OSCE facilitates negotiations for the solution to the Nagorno–Karabakh conflict.
