Belize is the largest city in Belize. It was once the capital city of British Honduras. According to the 2010 census, Belize City was home to 57.169 people in 16,162 households. It is at the mouth of Haulover Creek. This creek is a distributary of the Belize River. Eight kilometers (5 miles) from Belize City, the Belize River empties into the Caribbean Sea on the Philip Goldson Highway.

Corozal Town is Belize’s capital. Corozal Town was home to 9,871 people, according to 2010 census results.

Corozal was once an estate. It was incorporated as a city in 1840. It was founded on the site of Santa Rita, an ancient Maya settlement. Most residents were Maya Mestizo refugees fleeing Caste War.
